Fresh from winning the B League without losing a game, Quarry Thunder won their first tournament of the Summer, at Marston, beating both a JPL team and the A league Runners up in the process. Thunder entered two teams, so closely matched that when they met each other in the Quarter Final it went down to sudden death penalties to separate them. Well done boys, keep it up!

Our Under 8 girls (who all play with our Under 9 girls team) took part in the first OMGFL U8s Girls Football Festival on 28th October 2017. The event also included teams from Headington Youth, Summertown, Stonesfield, Wantage Town, Kidlington and Witney Vikings and all the teams played each other once. The event was a real success with many girls playing in their first competitive games - our Quarry girls loved it and can’t wait for the next one! Many thanks to Steve Cooper from OMGFL for organising the event, and to Headington Youth for hosting.
Quarry Thunder joined two teams from Stockholm, Sweden along with Oxford Blackbirds, Kennington Athletic and hosts Hinksey Park in a 9-a-side invitation tournament. It was a scorching Sunday afternoon. Despite the other OMBL teams being from higher leagues Quarry Thunder won several matches, including the eventual 3rd place play off.
We are starting training sessions for girls currently in Year 3, with a view to setting up an Under 9 team for next season. We currently have three other girls’ teams.
There will be an introductory session at the Margaret Road Rec in Headington on Wednesday 24th May at 5.30pm. If there is enough interest we will carry on after half term every Weds at either 5.30-6.30 or 6.30-7.30 depending on availability of space in the park! The plan is to continue through to the end of the summer term and then into the new school year.
Sessions will be run by Alastair Reid, a parent at Windmill School. The fo...
