Quarry Rovers (Section D) vs Summertown Stars Leopards (Section A)
Under 9’s Section D Autumn Supplementary Trophy Event Final
Saturday at Quarry Rec - 11am kickoff.
I very rarely post about the boys football but with this being an F.A. Cup weekend I thought it would be appropriate.
On Saturday my Quarry Rovers Under 9 side are in the final of the Division D Supplementary Trophy Event against Summertown Stars Leopards.
The competition has been contested between ourselves, Hinksey Park Stingrays, Ardley United (all from the bottom of Section D) and Summertown Stars Leopards from Section A (apparently if you need a team to make up the numbers in an Under 9 Section D Event you choose a team from Section A!).
It’s a privilege to coach for Quarry Rovers, it’s where I grew up, live, work and where I played all my childhood football. The club was established sixty five years ago and currently provides local grassroots football for over 200 boys and girls. It’s a club that values inclusivity and enjoyment for all above results and winning.
My side consists of thirteen mixed ability boys who all (except one) live within half a mile of the club and who were chosen eighteen months ago on a first come first serve basis and not on their ability as a footballer. All thirteen get equal game time each week in both the development game and the friendly game because we are not only developing their football but also instilling a sense of fairness and team spirit. Each player in the team is as important as the next regardless of their ability.
So on this F.A Cup weekend, if you have a free hour Saturday morning at 11am, why not come along to Quarry Recreation Park and cheer them on in what will truly be a David v Goliath game of local Under 9’s football. The boys would love a good crowd to support them for what (to them) is their F.A. Cup Final
