Go-ahead for new Quarry pavilion

After several years of deliberation and debate, Oxford City Council has given the green light to construct a new pavilion at the Quarry Recreation Ground on Margaret Road. The proposal was agreed under the council’s “Playing Pitch and Outdoor Sport Strategy 2012-2026”.

The outline plans have been published on the council web site as part of the public consultation process. Quarry Rovers Football Club has been officially recognised as a key stakeholder on the site redevelopment project.

As a club, we are delighted that Headington Quarry will benefit from much-needed new sporting facilities. The existing facilities at Quarry Rec have been sub-standard for many years. And despite efforts to patch and mend by the council and club volunteers, the pavilion is now beyond repair. The go-ahead to re-develop the site is long overdue and should make a real difference to the club and the wider local community.

The proposed plans are bound to generate a lot of discussion and suggestions. We look forward to playing our part in the consultation along with other local stakeholders.

No timetable for the build has been set.
